How a Sunday DM Turned Into a Summer of Appointments
I got the message early on a Sunday morning: could I see her that Tuesday. A full new set of custom K-tip extensions, on short notice, while she was filming here in Nova Scotia.
I knew exactly who she was the moment I saw the name — I'd watched Prime's, We Were Liars the summer before, entirely because a client of mine kept telling me I had to see it. I did, and I loved it.
I didn't hesitate. A longtime client of mine already had that Tuesday afternoon booked, and she's told me for years: if I can get someone in for extensions, move me without hesitation. So when I saw the name on my calendar, I already knew moving her wouldn't be a problem for either of us.
Her First Appointment at Salt + Pine
When Emily Alyn Lind came in, what she noticed first wasn't the colour or the extensions — it was the space itself. Small, intimate, quiet. She told me afterward that she couldn't have gotten this kind of experience in LA. I think what she meant was the time I took to actually understand her hair — what it needed, what she wanted it to feel like, not just what it should look like in a photo.
That first appointment, back in July, was about getting her brunette exactly right and building her first set of custom K-tips to match it.
A Summer of Appointments in Halifax
We saw each other twice more that summer — a retouch in between, and then a final appointment right before she left for the Venice Film Festival: a full new set of raw Slavic K-tips and a root touch-up, so everything would hold and move exactly right for the red carpet.
Three appointments. One summer. A colour she actually loved.
There's more to that first appointment I'll get into next time — but this is where it started: a DM, a Tuesday, and someone willing to trust a small studio in Halifax, Nova Scotia with something this important to her.
